I think there's a misconception that Objectivists are somehow superhuman. They are not. Emotions is part of life. Now, does this mean you should allow yourself to experience so much grief that it makes you want to jump off a cliff? No. Experience what you need to experience but do recognize that at some point, you will have to accept reality for what it is and move on with your life.
I wish you the best.
Krista, that's very well said: "express [emotions] as long as you do not let them control you."
As for "letting them out", that depends on whom you are around when you let them out. There's certainly no harm in screaming in private, perhaps into a pillow. Just don't do it for so long that you lose your voice. And limit your indulgence in such activities, because, in life, there are other things to be done.
Be just in your expression of emotions. Do not lash out at people who do not deserve it. And trust your emotions only to people who deserve that trust. Your emotions are your private business, not to be imposed upon nor trusted to strangers.
