Is it in contradiction to value certain things above one's life? e.g. honor, freedom and ideologies.

Rather than valuing liberty OVER life, she recognized that life without liberty is a contradiction which will have "life" crumbling down sooner rather than later.

It would be irrational to commit suicide (unless you're in perpetual pain) but it would be rational to take RISKS to achieve values. Most of the time, those risks involve just money and time. Sometimes, it may involve your life.
