Should objectivists feel obligated to lay their lives on the line in order protect the welfare of others? When should the mission be considered complete(When the enemy is totally annihilated, objectivists want to go home, etc.)? Should objectivists care about other parts of the world where there are serious problems(Middle East/Africa/Asia)? How do you guys feel about the war on terror? Are we in the right? What about the Iraq war?

What about duty? A higher call than the self? Would an objectivist soldier always consider desertion to be viable?

What I mean to say, is that, given a last stand scenario like in the movie "300", would an objectivist run away from the battle? Or would he die fighting with his comrades in arms?

Junky, I am really enjoying your enthusiastic questioning! Thank you. And please continue to ask lots of questions!

However, can I ask the favor of your avoiding simply asking "How do Objectivists feel about X"? Doing that is really only opening up a broad topic for wandering discussion (or inviting someone to try to reply with an exhaustive, systematic treatise addressing lots of questions/issues around that topic). You see, what makes OA special is that it is not a discussion forum (there are lots of those out there already) -- the site is designed for developing and organizing its content in the form of distinct questions and answers within broad topics.

If you are curious about anything having to do with the purpose, creation, operation, or use of this site -- including how to be really effective in grilling Objectivists here :^) -- please do feel free to drop me a line at admin@objectivistanswers.com.

Thanks again!

Greg
